- Resources: Becoming a Producer -
Where Do I Begin?

Step 1 - Introduction to CPA-TV
This introductory class will give you a better idea of what services we offer at CPA-TV.  Our staff will work with a small group of prospective producers during each session, and will teach the "studio basics" and studio policies and procedures.  These introductory classes will be offered on a regular basis throughout the year.  Please contact CPA-TV General Manager Cal Tate at (434) 995-5905 to sign up for a class and to discuss your ideas.

Step 2 - CPA-TV Membership
Once you become a member of CPA-TV, you will gain access to our state-of-the-art studio facilities, located at the Charlottesville-Albemarle Technical Education Center.  Your membership includes other perks as well, and helps with continued maintenance of CPA-TV, a non-profit organization.  While membership is not necessary to produce programming for our station, it is required in order to use our equipment and facilities.

Step 3 - CPA-TV Director's Certification Course
The CPA-TV Director's Certification Course is a new approach at training studio directors, developed by the current CPA-TV heads of production.  This program will provide a complete hands-on learning experience for everyone, on a personalized basis.  Prospective directors will witness and take part in the execution of five studio productions and eight production classes, before completing a solo 30-minute program for airing on CPA-TV.  Once their product has been deemed suitable for television, they will "graduate" with the ability to direct studio productions at CPA-TV, without supervision.  Contact Cal Tate for more details about this exciting new program, as well as our internship program for students.

Step 4 - Produce Your Show!
Once you have completed our supervised directing course, you are now free to create original, non-commercial television programming at CPA-TV.  You can now reserve studio time and use the equipment that you've been certified for.  If you need help getting started with your TV show, ask us about our Full Service capabilities!

Step 5 - Share Your Show!
Broadcast your program on one of our 3 cable channels. We can be found on Comcast Cable in Charlottesville and most surrounding counties, reaching over 40,000 households in Central Virginia, including many near the campus of the University of Virginia!
