Q: How do I contact Charlottesville Public Access Television?

A: There are four convenient ways to contact CPA-TV.  Click HERE to access the "contact" section of
this website, call (434) 995-5905 and speak with CPA-TV General Manager Cal Tate, send a
letter to CPA-TV, 1000 East Rio Road, Charlottesville, VA  22901 or stop by our studio facilities in
person at 1000 East Rio Road 10 AM - 4 PM Monday through Friday.  However, please call us at
the office before visiting in person to make sure someone is available to assist you.

Q: How do I make a television program for broadcast on Charlottesville Public Access Television?

A: Start by deciding whether you will be producing your program on your own or in the CPA-TV Studio
Facilities.  If you will be producing the program outside of CPA-TV, you will simply need to contact
the CPA-TV General Manager, Cal Tate, at (434) 995-5905 and arrange for an introduction to the
station.  Broadcast policies and procedures as well as technical standards will be discussed.  In
addition, CPA-TV Membership will be discussed.  Please read the question about Membership below
for more information.  If you wish to produce your program in the CPA-TV Studio, you will need to
contact the CPA-TV General Manager and voice your interest in making a show.  Then, you will need
to attend one of our "Studio Basics" classes for an orientation into the production of a studio
program.  All aspects of studio production will be covered during this time.  For on-air talent
(people who just want to host a show or be in front of the camera) this is all you will need to do.
If you wish to direct studio shows, please read the question and answer that immediately follows.

Q: How can I operate the CPA-TV equipment to make my own program?

A: New to the station is the experimental roll-out of the CPA-TV Director's Certification Course, where
anyone can learn to direct programs in the CPA-TV Studio.  Qualified candidates are those who
have voiced their interest in directing shows and have obtained CPA-TV Membership.  The CPA-TV
Director's Certification Course consists of control room participation in five studio programs, eight
classes involving hands-on studio production basics, and a 30-minute solo studio production.
Successful candidates are then allowed to direct both their and other producers programs and can
receive a small commission for each.  Please contact the CPA-TV General Manager for more detailed
                  information about this program.

Q: What is the CPA-TV Membership and how do I get one?

A: Launched with the station itself in 1993 and re-launched in 2006, CPA-TV Membership is a way of
supporting CPA-TV, a non-profit community organization, by providing regular maintenance for
our studio and broadcast facilities, stock, training, this website and other communication tools
not currently provided for in the budget.  It also covers your use of the equipment for which you
may be certified, as well as discounts on training classes.  For the various membership benefits
